Yair Netanyahu has been quietly installed into Likud's powerful Central Committee without ever facing an internal vote, Israeli media report, marking the latest move to bring the prime minister's son into the party's senior ranks.

His name recently appeared on the membership list of Likud's Ma'ale Yosef branch in northern Israel, despite the fact that Central Committee elections were held in November and he did not take part. The placement is believed to be the result of internal party arrangements rather than a grassroots selection.

The Central Committee is one of Likud's most influential bodies, charged with approving internal rules, shaping party policy and playing a decisive role in determining the faction's Knesset slate ahead of elections expected by October.

The development follows a failed attempt late last year to secure Netanyahu a senior role at the World Zionist Organization as part of negotiations over leadership of the WZO and the Jewish National Fund-KKL, which controls billions in funding for Jewish causes. Netanyahu, who has spent much of the past two years living in Miami, is known for his incendiary social media activity and for publicly attacking senior Israeli officials and foreign leaders in recent months.
