Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu opened the weekly cabinet meeting by expressing solidarity with protesters in Iran, saying Israelis "identify with the struggle of the Iranian people, with their aspirations for freedom, liberty and justice," and adding that "it is quite possible that we are at a moment when the Iranian people are taking their fate into their own hands."
He then spoke about his recent talks in Florida with US President Donald Trump, saying the two leaders "reiterated our shared position of zero \[uranium\] enrichment," called "to remove the 400 kilograms of enriched material from Iran," and stressed the need "to subject the sites to strict and genuine oversight." On Gaza, Netanyahu said Trump "was unequivocal" that Hamas must disarm, insisting that "there is no other option" and that this is "a necessary and fundamental condition for implementing his 20-point plan."
Turning to domestic issues, Netanyahu praised National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir for efforts to "restore governance" in the south, including establishing a National Guard and making changes in the Israel Prison Service, but Israeli media report that the cabinet meeting became heated when Netanyahu clashed with Deputy Attorney General Gil Limon over demands that he explain why he has not dismissed Ben Gvir over alleged improper interference in the Israel Police.
Netanyahu also said Israel supports the United States' "decisive action" in capturing Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, arguing it would "restore freedom and justice to that region of the world."
