Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu spent the day in south Florida meeting with Jewish and Evangelical leaders, including a lunch with elected officials and communal figures at The Shul of Bal Harbour, where Florida Lieutenant Governor Jay Collins was among those present.
Earlier, speaking to Evangelical leaders in Palm Beach, Netanyahu said Israel is becoming part of a coalition of countries "that support Christian communities around the world," describing them as "beleaguered communities who deserve our help." He said Israel is already providing assistance in multiple arenas - including intelligence efforts in Africa and support across the Middle East - adding that this work is "a main part of our agenda" and will expand "with greater force and greater might" in the year ahead.
Netanyahu also accused countries across the region of targeting Christians, saying persecution is taking place "in Syria, in Lebanon, in Nigeria, in Turkey and beyond." He characterized the battle for public opinion among young conservatives in the US as an "eighth front" in the war, calling it a struggle for "the hearts and minds of people" that is "a theater that has to be engaged with great force."
