The UAE has announced that it is withdrawing the last of its troops from Yemen, ending the counterterrorism mission that remained after it wound down its main military involvement in the country.
According to a statement carried by state news agency WAM, the Emirati defense ministry said the decision followed a comprehensive assessment of recent developments. The counterterrorism units had stayed in Yemen even after Abu Dhabi formally ended its broader military role in 2019, and the announcement came the same day a Saudi-led coalition struck the port city of Mukalla in southern Yemen, which Riyadh said targeted a weapons shipment linked to the UAE.
