Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that US President Donald Trump was awarded a newly created Israel Prize category for peace, saying the move followed Trump's record of "breaking so many conventions." Netanyahu said Israel decided to grant the prize to a non-Israeli, adding, "It would honor us, Mr. President, if you could visit Israel" on Israel's Independence Day to receive it.
