The Prime Minister's Office says it has found no evidence of any cyber breach involving Tzachi Braverman, Netanyahu's chief of staff, despite claims by the Iran-linked Handala hacking group that it has accessed his phone and intends to release material today. Handala previously made a similar claim about former prime minister Naftali Bennett and is now alleging that its latest leak will connect Braverman to the so-called Qatargate affair.
Alongside its claims, the group has circulated files it says were taken from Braverman's device, including a contact list allegedly containing phone numbers of senior figures in Netanyahu's inner circle - among them Sara Netanyahu - as well as videos and documents that appear to be internal, including material describing emergency procedures during the June war with Iran.
The hacking allegations come as Braverman is already under pressure over separate controversies. Two advisers to Netanyahu are suspected of working for Qatar through the Perception PR firm run by former campaign manager Yisrael Einhorn, and adviser Eli Feldstein has said Braverman was involved in a different episode concerning the leak of classified information to Germany's _Bild_. Feldstein, who has admitted to passing on the material, claimed Braverman assured him a secret IDF probe could be stopped while also warning him not to cooperate with investigators. Both Braverman and Netanyahu deny any wrongdoing, but the affair is now casting a shadow over Braverman's planned appointment as ambassador to the UK.
