As Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu prepares for his December 28 meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, Talik Gvili announced that she will join the trip to Washington, saying that no further steps in the ceasefire framework should move forward while her son remains in Gaza. Pointing to the original terms of the deal, she said, "My Rani is the forty-eighth," referring to the fact that 48 hostages were meant to be returned but only 47 have come home, warning that advancing while commitments are being violated could mean losing him forever.
Relatives of former hostages stood with Gvili, including family members of Iair and Eitan Horn, Ofir Engel, Edan Alexander, and Omer Neutra. Dalia Cusnir-Horn, sister-in-law of Iair and Eitan Horn, thanked President Trump for helping secure their release but said the effort is unfinished, urging Washington to "use all your leverage" so that Hamas honors "every word of this agreement," noting that while others prepare for the holidays, Talik Gvili is still waiting for her son.
Ran Gvili, a Yamam police officer killed while fighting Hamas on October 7, had his body taken to Gaza and is believed to be held by Islamic Jihad. His mother said Hamas knows exactly where he is and declared she will not accept a reality "in which towers are built and Gaza is rehabilitated while my Rani is abandoned in the field." She added that she fully supports Netanyahu's refusal to move to the next phase, which deals with Gaza's long-term governance and security arrangements, until all current obligations are met.
