In the wake of the deadly terror attack on a Hanukkah gathering
By Sammy,
In the wake of the deadly terror attack on a Hanukkah gathering, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said he bears responsibility for the atrocity and apologized to both the Jewish community and the nation. "I feel the weight of responsibility for an atrocity that happened whilst I'm prime minister," Albanese said, adding that he is "sorry for what the Jewish community and our nation as a whole has experienced."
He stressed that the government is committed to protecting Jewish Australians and ensuring they can live openly and safely, with the right "to be proud of who they are, to practice their faith, to educate their children and to engage in Australian society in the fullest way possible." The attack, which killed 15 people - including a 10-year-old child - followed years of warnings from the Jewish community that rising antisemitism could lead to violence.
