According to a report by Greek media, Israel, Greece and Cyprus are exploring the establishment of a joint rapid-response force in the eastern Mediterranean, as Athens grows increasingly uneasy over Turkey's expanding military footprint in the region. The discussions, cited by the daily _Ta Nea_, are being held among senior defense officials and security analysts from the three countries.
The proposed framework would involve a brigade-sized unit of roughly 2,500 personnel, combining ground, air and naval elements. Under the concept outlined in the report, Israel and Greece would each contribute about 1,000 troops, with Cyprus adding some 500. The force would operate across multiple locations, including bases in Israel and Cyprus as well as on the Greek islands of Rhodes and Karpathos, and would include air force squadrons from Israel and Greece alongside naval assets tasked with safeguarding critical regional infrastructure. Greek media notes that the initiative could deepen Israel's strategic reach while strengthening deterrence capabilities for Greece and Cyprus.
